The rate of murders of LGBT persons in Colombia is much higher than that of Brazil, due to conflict between armed groups.
The two largest cities, Bogota and Medellin, are fairly safe. The transgender population of Bogota varies from 1,500 to 3,000, depending on time of year.
The third largest city, Cali, is known as a death zone for transgenders. Out of 21 LGBT murders in 2006-2007, 16 were transgender.
