In January 1983, plastic surgeon Wang Damei carried out the first SRS operation in China, on Zhang Kesha (pictured above).
The link below tells the story of the wedding of a different person, Zhang Lin, but notes that 4 trans people were married in China in 1996.
Chen Lili is another famous trans person touched on in the report.
The estimate of 1,000 people udergoing SRS in China by 2004 is higher than other sources (typically quoting 500), but all say hard statistics are not available.
